Technology has impacted just about every industry. The flying industry is no different. In the past, you would have to arrive early at the airport, visit a customer service agent at the front, and check in for your plane there. Now, it is possible for you to check in for your flight from home, saving you time when you get to the airport. That is where an electronic ticket comes in handy. Also referred to as an e-ticket, you may be wondering how you can get one of these. In this post, we are going to cover:
- What an electronic ticket is and how you can get one
- The information that is included on your electronic ticket
- What you should do if you misplace or are unable to access your electronic ticket
We have witnessed the transformation of the flying industry. Now, we use electronic tickets on a regular basis. Allow us to share some of our experiences with you!
How Do You Get an Electronic Ticket?
If you are wondering how to get an electronic ticket, it is important to differentiate between a ticket and a boarding pass. Both of these can be obtained electronically.
An electronic ticket is usually sent to your email address after you purchase a plane ticket. Typically, this is sent to you automatically. Your electronic ticket is a reflection of your purchase for an upcoming flight. An electronic ticket is not going to provide you with a seat on the plane; however, it does let you know that you have paid for one. You will get a seat on that plane when you check in.
You may also get an electronic boarding pass, which is what most people are talking about when they discuss an electronic ticket. You receive your electronic boarding pass when you check in for your plane. Usually, you are allowed to check in for your plane starting 24 hours before the time of departure. After you go through the check-in process, the airline should send your electronic boarding pass to you automatically. This could be sent to your email address, your phone, or both. You need to keep track of your electronic boarding pass, as this is going to allow you to get on the plane.
Therefore, if you need a copy of your electronic boarding pass, it should be sent to you automatically when you check in for your flight. If you did not receive it, you should use your confirmation code to go to the check-in process again. There should be a step where you can request another copy of your electronic boarding pass. Keep in mind that this may void the original copy you were sent.
What Is Included on Your Electronic Ticket?
There is a lot of important information that is included on your electronic boarding pass. First, this boarding pass is going to specify the date and time of your departure. It will also include the departure airport. If you have multiple airports located in your city, make sure you go to the right one. Furthermore, you should also plan on arriving a couple of hours early for your flight. This will allow you plenty of time to go through security.
Your boarding pass is also going to include your seat information. When you go to the check-in process, you should be allowed to select a seat. Pick carefully, as you may have to pay extra for certain seats. In some situations, the airline may not be able to assign you a seat during the online process. If that is the case, the airline may withhold your electronic boarding pass until you get to the airport. If this is the case, you need to allow extra time to go to the check-in process in-person. That way, you know you have a seat on the plane.
What if You Cannot Access Your Electronic Ticket?
There are a lot of advantages that come with using an electronic ticket. For example, you do not have to worry about misplacing a piece of paper. Furthermore, this is a contact list check-in system, as anyone who wants to scan your boarding pass simply has to scan it with an IR scanner.
On the other hand, there are a few disadvantages of using an electronic ticket as well. Even though you may not misplace your phone, you may not be able to access your boarding pass at all times. For example, if you have to load your boarding pass at the airport using data or an internet connection, the airport may be too busy for you to do this quickly. Furthermore, if your electronic device dies, you may not be able to access your electronic boarding pass at all.
As a result, you should make sure that your phone is fully charged when you get to the airport. That way, it won't die as you are trying to pull up your boarding pass. Furthermore, you may want to take a screenshot of your boarding pass so you don't have to worry about pulling it up at the airport. If you take a screenshot, make sure you get the entire barcode. Otherwise, the TSA agent will not be able to scan it.
If you really cannot find your electronic ticket, you have to go back to the front desk. Ask the airline to provide you with a hard copy of your boarding pass. They should be able to do that for you.
Keep Track of Your E-Ticket
In the end, it is critically important for you to keep track of your electronic ticket. This contains a lot of important information on it, including your seat number, the time of your departure, and your first and last name. Make sure you are able to access your boarding pass when you get to the airport. Ensure your phone is fully charged and try to take a screenshot of your boarding pass before you get there. If you misplace your boarding pass, you can get another copy from the front desk.
